MTA Holds June 2005 Red Line Open Houses
The Red Line Study Team is committed to reaching out to the public and encouraging residents, business owners, elected officials, commuters, and others to become involved in the Red Line project. At the June 2005 public Open Houses, participants reviewed and discussed:
- The various alternatives being recommended for further study;
- Where stations could be located;
- Information on environmental and community issues that are being studied; and
- The project schedule and next steps.
If you were unable to attend the June 2005 Open Houses, it is not too late to get involved. Below you will find materials and information presented at the Open Houses.

In October 2004, the MTA began preliminary technical analyses to reduce the number of potential alignment alternatives being studied. These analyses considered factors such as:
- Engineering,
- Constructability;
- Conceptual construction costs;
- Preservation of, or minimization of, impacts on environmental resources;
- Potential for improved travel time;
- Connectivity to existing transit services;
- Auto and/or walk accessibility to stations;
- Existing and future land uses;
- Opportunity to serve transit-dependent populations while attracting choice riders; and
- Consistency with local community revitalization and economic redevelopment efforts.

Alignments Map from October 2004: In late October/early November 2004, a description of the study corridor and transit vehicle options was presented at a series of public Open House meetings. Click below to view alignment maps displayed at the Fall 2004 Open Houses.
Alignments and Station Areas Recommended for Further Study: As a result of input from local and State agencies and the public along with the technical evaluation process, the MTA has developed alignment and station areas recommended for further study.

Environmental Resources: The Red Line Study includes conducting inventories and analyzing potential impacts to the natural and cultural resources within the study area. The Environmental Resources map features natural resources found within the corridor including wetlands, streams, floodplains, watersheds, rare, threatened and endangered species, parklands and Chesapeake Bay Critical Areas. Cultural resources within the study area include historic sites, historic districts, monuments and other places of interest. The Section 106 Review display explains how historic properties are protected under the National Historic Preservation Act. Each resource will be investigated and documented in detail in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), which is anticipated to be completed in Winter 2006/ 2007.
